Purlins are the horizontal members that carry roof sheets and wall cladding back to the main frame of a building. In Qatar's warehouses, sheds and site buildings, the choice usually comes down to two shapes: C purlins and Z purlins. Both are cold-formed from galvanised steel, but they suit different jobs.

A C purlin has a web and two flanges facing the same way, like the letter C. Each length sits between two supports on its own, which makes C purlins:
A Z purlin's flanges point in opposite directions. That shape lets one length overlap, or lap, the next over a support, so a row of Z purlins behaves like one continuous member. This makes Z purlins:
As a rule of thumb, C purlins are the practical choice for simple single spans and wall framing, while Z purlins are worth considering for larger roofs with several bays. The exact section depth, thickness and spacing should always come from your structural engineer's design, because they depend on the span, roof load and wind load for your site.
When you ask us for a quotation, tell us the profile (C or Z), the section size, the thickness and the lengths you need, and we will confirm what we have in stock.
